Takeru's VA did an insane job at portraying his frustration and panic, the fighting scenes were awesome as usual, and i was literally at the edge of my sit the whole time.i've read the Visual Novel but the anime made it feel almost as if i was experiencing this moment for the first time again. Really loved this episode, when i saw the infamous chomp being teased for this week i was kinda worried on how they would condense the XM3 Trials, and while one or two little parts were cut, i honestly couldn't be more happy with the result. (And it was such a bad idea for them to try to make a mecha game out of this exactly because of this reason.) are all just a vehicle for the core story that don't hold much importance for me whatsoever. Essentially the whole story is about Takeru's inner odyssey. The detailed depiction of character development in Alternative is just insane. It arguably stakes the claim as the best VN arc/chapter ever written. Just wait till you see the arc that immediately follows. It's about Takeru (also the reader) as somebody born in a peaceful and prosperous era has only imagined the glory of being a hero, without the tiniest bit of idea of how brutal a real war situation can be, on another level it's also about somebody who just graduated full of ambition and dreams faces the brutal challenges of the real society (this was actually one original intention of Kouki writing the story, though surprisingly he got the most passionate praises from mid-level managers as he claimed in an interview.) Of course, there are so many more themes that can be explored in the story. (In addition, the level of realism and details in the worldbuilding and writing is just simply unparalleled, which you'll get to see more later in the story.) In this sense it's a complete, ultra-brutal-and-realistic subversion of the "isekai" tropes. This is exactly one big reason why Alternative is the highest-ranked VN of all time on VNDB. Is what should happen to them when things slip up. Looking for what show an image came from?
